Chaffey College Student Government Elections: April 20–23

Your money. Your rights. Your education. Don't let someone else call the shots.

Between core classes, shifts at work, and real life, voting in a student election is probably the last thing on your mind. My name is Michael Zeta, and I want to be your supporter, not your boss. I’m here to show you exactly why taking just 60 seconds to cast a ballot online is the easiest way to protect your money, your rights, and your hustle.

Why vote?

Why Your Vote Actually Matters
And What It Costs If You Don't

  1. Financial return

You've Already Paid. Get Your Money's Worth.

Every semester, a portion of your tuition goes into a massive pool of student fees. If you think that money only goes to clubs or events you don't attend, think again.

Student government decides how thousands of dollars are spent. If you don't vote, you are letting someone else spend your money.

Vote to fund the grants, resources, and campus support systems that actually help you survive the semester.

  2. The law

The '9+1 Rights': Your Legal Megaphone.

Did you know the State of California legally guarantees community college students a voice in major policy decisions? It's called the "9+1 Rights", and it covers everything from grading policies to student codes of conduct and campus fees.

The law exists because administrators shouldn't make rules without asking the people who actually have to live by them. Student government is your megaphone in those rooms.

  3. The daily grind

    Protecting Your Work-Life-School Balance.

Whether you're a recent high school graduate or an adult learner working full-time, the "Chaffey hustle" is exhausting.

You need leaders who understand that struggle and will advocate for flexible resources, better accessibility, and real mental health support.

Voting puts people in place who will fight to make your daily life easier, not harder.

Don't You Think?

Student government shouldn't feel like an exclusive club.

Let's be honest about how campus politics usually looks from the outside. Too often, student government feels like an exclusive club designed for people trying to build their university resumes. When leadership roles are treated as shiny titles or popularity contests, the actual student body gets left behind. You are out here juggling work shifts, heavy course loads, and real-world responsibilities, while the people elected to represent you are often disconnected from that reality, focusing on their own prestige instead of your daily grind.

But this isn't just annoying—it actually costs you. When ego takes over the Student Senate, the real work stops. Your required student fees get quietly funneled into projects or events you never see. Worse, when the college administration proposes changes to grading, fees, or campus accessibility, there is no one in the room willing to push back. Because your representatives are too focused on keeping their titles to actually fight for your rights, you end up paying the price for a broken system, left to navigate the complexities of college entirely on your own.

The solution

Leadership is about support, not a shiny title.

I believe a representative's only job is to ask, 'What do you need to succeed?' and then go to work figuring out how to make it happen.

The non-traditional perspective

My path to this campus wasn't a straight line.

For over a decade, I worked as a music instructor, helping students find their voices. Returning to school for a career change in technology project management gave me a deep, personal appreciation for the diverse paths we take. From recent high school graduates to adult learners balancing coursework with careers and families, every student deserves an empathetic advocate.

The servant leadership approach

The most effective solutions come from checking your ego at the door.

True leadership requires constant practice, humility, and a willingness to learn from those around you. I fundamentally believe in servant leadership. A true leader "starts with their why," working tirelessly to ensure their team has the tools needed to prosper. My "why" is your success.

Realistic advocacy

I will not make grand promises that fall outside the scope of student government.

I am not going to promise to fix campus parking overnight. What I can absolutely promise is my unwavering dedication. As the current VP of the Recording Arts Club, I already know how to navigate Chaffey's systems. My goal is to serve as a reliable bridge between you and the administration, ensuring your concerns are amplified and acted upon.
